The sheer quantity of variables that impact on the future are so vast that any attempt to plan scenarios is doomed to be incorrect in detail and thus, unsound in conclusion. To predict the future, we looked to the past and reached this conclusion; no matter how violent the changes affecting us along the way, the human race will always ‘adapt and survive’ and a balance in the world of work will be achieved by an adjustment of the amount of work available against the needs of the global and local community, the availability of resources and the size of the population.
